Ammonia Storage Vessel

Ammonia Storage Vessel

Engineering, Design & Manufacturing Excellence

An Ammonia Storage Vessel is a specially engineered pressure container designed for the safe storage and handling of anhydrous ammonia (NH₃) used across fertilizer, petrochemical, refrigeration, and industrial applications. Due to the high toxicity, corrosiveness, and vapor pressure of ammonia, storage vessels must be designed with the highest safety, material integrity, and compliance standards.

What Is an Ammonia Storage Vessel?

An Ammonia Storage Vessel is a pressure-rated tank engineered to store anhydrous ammonia at controlled conditions. These vessels can be oriented horizontal or vertical, depending on the installation space, working capacity, and operational requirements.

Ammonia is commonly stored either:

  • As a pressurized liquid at ambient temperature, or
  • As a refrigerated liquid at –33°C (atmospheric pressure) for large-scale applications.
Key Features of Our Ammonia Storage Vessels:
✔ Precision Engineered for High Safety
  • Designed to ASME Section VIII Div. 1/2, PED, ISO, or customer-specific codes.
  • Built to manage ammonia’s high vapor pressure and corrosive behavior.
  • Equipped with multi-level protection systems for leak, pressure & temperature control.
Design Codes & International Standards:
  • ASME Sec. VIII Div.1 / Div.2
  • API 620 / API 650 (for large refrigerated tanks)
  • IS 2825 / EN 13445
  • TEMA / NACE MR0175
  • NFPA 30 & OSHA Guidelines
  • OISD Standards (India)
Material Selection for Ammonia Service :
Ammonia-Compatible Materials

Ammonia is highly reactive, especially with copper-based alloys. Our vessels are manufactured using compatible, corrosion-resistant materials:

Common Material Options
  • Carbon Steel SA 516 Gr. 60/70 (most widely used)
  • Low-temperature carbon steel (LTCS) for refrigerated storage
  • Stainless Steel (SS304 / SS316) for specialized applications
  • Internal coatings or rubber linings based on the operating environment
