Surge Tank – Pressurized Utility Vessels

Surge Tank

Introduction

Surge Tanks are ASME-certified pressurized vessels designed to absorb sudden hydraulic surges, pressure fluctuations, and water hammer in HVAC, industrial, and utility systems. They protect pipelines, pumps, valves, and sensitive components from mechanical shock and pressure spikes.

At NORDSTONE., our surge tanks are engineered with high-strength construction, precise hydraulic performance, and compliance with ASME Section VIII Div.1, PED, and NB Certification for safe and reliable surge management.

What is a Surge Tank?

A surge tank absorbs sudden pressure rises caused by rapid valve closure, pump start/stop, or fluctuating system loads. It temporarily stores excess fluid and releases it gradually, preventing water hammer and mechanical stress.

  • Cylindrical or spherical pressure vessel
  • Air or nitrogen cushion for surge absorption
  • Inlet/outlet nozzles for system integration
  • Pressure relief and vent connections
  • Drain port for maintenance
  • Manway for inspection
  • Optional thermal insulation
