Stripper Column – Column-Type Pressure Vessels

Stripper Column

Introduction

A Stripper Column is a vertical column-type pressure vessel used to remove volatile or unwanted components from liquid streams by contacting them with a rising vapor or gas. These columns are widely used in oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical, and environmental industries for purification, solvent recovery, and process optimization. At NORDSTONE, our stripper columns deliver high separation efficiency, robust mechanical integrity, and compliance with ASME Sec VIII Div.1, API & TEMA codes.

What is a Stripper Column?

A stripper column works by contacting a liquid stream with rising vapor or gas. Volatile components are stripped, carried upward, condensed, and collected. Typical construction includes:

  • Vertical cylindrical shell
  • Trays or packed sections for vapor–liquid contact
  • Liquid distributors & redistributors
  • Vapor inlet and outlet systems
  • Bottom reboiler or heating attachment (optional)

Types of Stripper Columns

  • 1) Tray-Type Stripper Column
    • Uses sieve, valve, or bubble-cap trays
    • Provides defined stripping stages
    • Ideal for high liquid flow applications
  • 2) Packed Stripper Column
    • Random or structured packing
    • Continuous vapor–liquid contact
    • Low pressure drop & high efficiency
  • 3) Steam Stripper
    • Uses steam as the stripping medium
    • Ideal for high-boiling or heat-sensitive liquids
    • Common in petroleum refining
  • 4) Gas Stripper
    • Uses air, nitrogen, or inert gases
    • Effective for VOC removal & solvent recovery
  • 5) Multi-Stage Stripper Column

Multiple trays or packing layers for high removal efficiency.

Key Features of Our Stripper Columns:
