Absorber Column

Absorber Column

Introduction

An Absorber Column is a vertical column-type pressure vessel designed to enable efficient gas-liquid mass transfer. These columns remove contaminants or recover valuable components and are widely used in chemical plants, petrochemical facilities, refineries, and environmental engineering. At NORDSTONE, our absorber columns feature robust construction, optimized internal design, and full compliance with ASME Sec VIII Div.1, API & TEMA standards.

What is an Absorber Column?

Absorber columns operate on the principle of selective absorption, where a solvent absorbs one or more components from a gas stream. The column typically includes:

  • Vertical cylindrical shell
  • Trays or structured/random packing
  • Liquid distributors & redistributors
  • Vapor inlet and outlet systems
  • Gas disengagement zone and mist eliminators

Types of Absorber Columns

  • 1) Tray-Type Absorber
    • Uses sieve, valve, or bubble-cap trays
    • Provides discrete gas–liquid contact stages
    • Ideal for high-capacity absorption
  • 2) Packed Absorber Column
    • Filled with structured or random packing
    • Large surface area for mass transfer
    • Low-pressure drop & energy efficient
  • 3) Spray Column
    • Uses liquid spray nozzles for contact
    • Simple design for small-to-moderate gas flow
  • 4) Multi-Stage Absorber

Multiple contact levels offering maximum absorption efficiency.

  • 5) Gas Scrubber Absorber

Removes SO₂, HCl, CO₂ & VOC contaminants from industrial flue gas.

Key Features of Our Absorber Columns:
  • Superior Mass Transfer Efficiency

Optimized trays & packing ensure high absorption rates with uniform flow.

  • Robust Mechanical Design
