Safety & Relief Valves

Critical Protection Systems for High-Temperature, High-Pressure BFG Applications

BFG Safety & Relief Valves

Introduction

Safety and operational reliability are paramount in blast furnace (BF) operations due to the high temperatures (up to 1200°C), pressures, and combustible nature of blast furnace gas (BFG).

Safety and relief valves are critical for protecting equipment, personnel, and processes from overpressure, backflow, explosions, and emergency events. Our range of valves is designed for high-performance, high-temperature, and high-pressure BFG applications, ensuring compliance with international standards (API, ASME, EN, IBR).

Mission-Critical Safety Systems

Engineered for absolute reliability in the harshest conditions, our safety valves provide the last line of defense against catastrophic failures, ensuring plant safety and operational continuity.

Key advantages include:

  • API/ASME compliance for pressure relief applications
  • High-temperature operation up to 1200°C
  • Fast-acting response for emergency protection
  • Refractory-lined designs for hot blast applications
  • Pilot-operated and spring-loaded options
  • Integration with plant safety systems
  • Comprehensive testing and certification
  • Fail-safe operation in critical conditions

Our safety valves are engineered with a "safety-first" philosophy, providing reliable protection for personnel, equipment, and processes in blast furnace operations.

Key Safety & Relief Valves

SRV

BFG Safety Relief Valve

Protects BFG piping, vessels, and gas-handling systems from overpressure. Automatically releases excess gas when operating pressure exceeds set limits.

Technical Features:
  • Set pressure: 0.5–5 bar (customizable based on BF operation)
  • High-temperature resistant materials: Alloy steel, stainless steel (SS304/SS316)
  • Fast-acting spring-loaded mechanism for immediate pressure relief
  • Optional pilot-operated designs for precise and repeatable pressure control
  • Compliance with API 520/521 and ASME Section VIII standards
Applications:

BFG main pipelines • Gas cleaning plants • Hot blast stoves • Pressure vessels and receivers

BPRV

Back Pressure Relief Valve

Maintains controlled back pressure in BFG systems to ensure proper flow to turbines, burners, or gas flare systems. Prevents reverse flow and equipment damage.

Technical Features:
  • Adjustable back-pressure settings
  • High-temperature, corrosion-resistant construction
  • Fast response to pressure fluctuations to prevent process instability
  • Can be integrated with pneumatic or hydraulic actuation for remote operation
  • Maintains system pressure within safe operating limits
Applications:

Gas turbine BFG control systems • Flare headers and distribution manifolds • Blast furnace gas recovery lines • Pressure control systems

EVV

Explosion Vent Valve

Provides a controlled release path for sudden overpressure caused by BFG ignition, combustible gas accumulation, or dust explosions. Prevents structural damage to piping, ducts, and vessels.

Technical Features:
  • Instant opening at predefined burst pressure
  • Reusable or single-use rupture disc options
  • High-temperature and refractory-lined designs for hot gas applications
  • ANSI/ISO compliant vent sizing and discharge design
  • Optional integrated flame arrestors
Applications:

Gas cleaning plant ducts • BFG dust catcher units • Stove flue gas lines • Explosion protection systems • Baghouse and filter protection

EIV

Emergency Isolation Valve (EIV)

Instantly isolates sections of the BFG system during emergency shutdowns, leaks, or fires. Protects personnel and critical equipment from catastrophic failures.

Technical Features:
  • Fully automated hydraulic or pneumatic actuation
  • Rapid closure (<2 seconds for emergency applications)
  • High-temperature, refractory-lined body for continuous BF operation
  • Remote control capability via PLC or DCS
  • Tight shut-off to prevent gas leakage
Applications:

Blast furnace tapping lines • Gas distribution headers • Hot blast stove feed lines • Emergency shutdown systems • Fire zone isolation
